Each
year, in the Atrium the week before Christmas, a wonderful
aroma of cookie spices fills the air . It's tiome for the display
of
Gingerbread Houses, decorated by employees in an annual holiday
tradition. Residents and other onlookers are asked to fill
out a “ballot” listing their three favorites, and
prizes are awarded to the winners. Brad
Mauger, Executive Chef, makes the gingerbread, which is used
for walls and roofs, and the participating employees then use
their creativity to make a building and decorated it with varieties
of candies, chocolate, gumdrops, etc., using colored icing as
the glue. The exhibit is always a great attraction for visiting
families and guests during the holiday season.
At
the time of the voting for favorites, it is not known who decorated
the houses. These photos of the 2009 houses were taken by Margery
Rubin after the prizewinners were announced and after
labels had been added giving the names of the staff who had participated
in the annual display.
