The ML Birders were greeted at the Cape May Point observation platform by a dense fog that limited what could be seen in the immediate area and especially the migrating raptors. However, we quickly put Plan B into action and headed over to Higbee Beach which gave us access to broad, open fields and vegetative borders and clear viewing as the fog abated. We picked up sparrows, woodpeckers and a few other common song birds. By the time we headed back to Cape May Point the fog had lifted and we got to see quite a few migrating raptors. We also had a nice walk on one of the nature trails at the point. We managed to see 43 species for the day with the three Northern Harriers patrolling the marsh being the icing on the cake.<\/p>
