This year\u2019s annual Winter Censuses were conducted\u00a0 in very cold but sunny weather. The Medford campus census was held on January 15. On that day, the temperature barely reached 25\u00b0 F by noon; twenty-three species were recorded with a total of 850 individuals. No rarities were found, but a flock of 100 or more American Robins and Common Grackles was seen along the driveway leading to the Woods Cottages. Both species have been historically uncommon in midwinter, but this year there were big crops of berries and nuts for them to eat. On the other hand, numbers of Carolina Chickadees and Tufted Titmice seem to be very low this year, for unknown reasons; the chickadee was missed completely on the Medford campus.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
