Lore: The name carpenters herb stems from belief that "the decoction of Prunell made with wine or water doth joine together and make whole and sound all wounds, both inward and outward." (Gerard, 1633)

Heal-All is used as an herbal remedy for minor throat ailments by making a tea and gargling. The tea is also used to treat diarrhea and fevers internally and wounds, ulcers, soars, and bruises. Chinese have used the tea to treat kidney ailments, conjunctivitis, boils, heat in the liver, and scrofula. The plant contains ursolic acid, which is a diuretic and an anti-tumor compound.
