V. obliqua, also known as V. cucullata, is a deciduous perennial that is stemless and spreading with leaves that are heart-shaped to 3 1/2 inches long. Single, blue-violet flowers to 3/4 inches across with1/16 inch spurs bloom in the late spring. At times, white flowers with blue eyes and blue veins bloom. (photo from Superstock)
