HURRICANE IRENE - A MORNING WALK

by Maggie Heineman

The Hurricane passed through during the night.  I've never been a photographer. But I had bought a camera two weeks earlier. So, at 7 am on the morning after, the novice photographer took her camera for a walk.
Aside from the raindrops on the camera lens, I think the photos are quite nice.   I had puchased a second battery but didn't have it with me, so no photos on the return trip via the Backwater Trail.  But these are enough.

This tree behind unit 191 has been replanted.

It was raining lightly and there are water spots from the raindrops on the lens.
The water in the culvert extended into the Obbard's garden.

Pool furniture and equipment had been stowed

I took a stick at the top of Rancocas Trail

The trail was not under water. Lower ground was.

The canoes were in place. The canoe dock was submerged.

Barricade ahead.

A serious barricade. Greenbrier on the fallen tree. Greenbrier growing on both sides of the trail.
Rancocas Trail was blocked. Can't go over, under, or around.

I was able to bushwhack left to the nearby Kaydee Trail.  This picture shows Kaydee in the direction back toward the Community Center. Impassable. But that was okay.  I was going the other way. On the return when I got here I  would be able to bushwhack to the Rancocas Trail.

Kaydee merged with Rancocas Trail. There was a place where I needed to wade. I had the right shoes and I was very glad I'd picked up a bamboo pole. I needed the pole to safely cross the water barrier.

The trail marker says to go ahead, but the Rancocas Creek has merged with the Rancocas Trail.
The leaning tree is at the bank of the creek, which has given away.

On the return, I hung a right at Kaydee. Where Kaydee went underwater I bushwacked to the Rancocas Trail.
The fuchsia X marks the spot of the barricade. Then I took the left fork to see if Backwater Trail was passable.
It was!!  But my camera battery was dead by then.
