Red-breasted Mergansers

On a fairly pleasant day at the Shore the only thing missing were the objects of our trip, namely, the birds!! The unseasonably mild weather might be the culprit. We managed to get 22 species but the number of individuals was meager at best. The normal contingent of coastal sea ducks were just not to be seen in the inlet and jetties although an occasional line of Scoters could be seen flying low to the water offshore. We did see a few Northern Gannets diving offshore and some Long-tailed ducks in the inlet area. After a nice lunch at Kubel’s we did get some Buffleheads, Red-breasted Mergansers and Common Loons at Harvey Cedars Beach on the bay side.

Participants: Joe Costanza, Ethel Cebra, Earl and Sandy Evens, Marie Gleason, Robert Koch, Miriam Swartz and Louise Tompkins. Guests were Loretta Kamieniecki and Mary Ellen Zitler.
