Gray Catbird

The day was overcast but later the sun broke through. We parked near the bridge on Hawkins Road. Birding from that spot we saw or heard Black-and-white Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, Wood Thrush, and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher.

We then drove down Hawkins Road to the area where power lines cross the road and walked into the grassy area under the power lines, and later along the edge of the road. We saw or heard Carolina Chickadee, American Crow, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Turkey Vulture, Prairie Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Great Crested Flycatcher, and Mourning Dove. Also in this area we saw dragonflies and blooming Mountain Laurel, and listened to calling frogs.

We then drove to Burlington County Institute of Technology in Chairville to the large field behind the buildings. There we saw N. Mockingbird, Barn Swallow, Red-winged Blackbird, Canada Goose, Song Sparrow, a Green Heron (on top of a tall tree), and an unidentified flycatcher.

Participants: Ethel Cebra, Carol Neil, Louise Tompkins and Ro Wilson.
