Gray Catbird
Gray Catbird

The ML Birders took our first short trip of the year to Boundary Creek Park on a mostly overcast day with temperatures in the low 60’s. The bird of the day based on numbers was Gray Catbird. They were very abundant visibly and very audible. We hoped to see a nice variety of warblers but only managed two (Pine and Yellow). We watched a couple of Baltimore Orioles;  the male (still molting into adult plumage) was busy working on the nest, pulling a thread-like piece of fiber with its beak. There were plenty of Red-winged Blackbirds in the marsh along the Rancocas Creek, and we managed to get a picture a female on its nest from one of the observation platforms. The only raptors up were Black and Turkey Vultures. We observed a total of 30 species for the morning.

Participants: Ethel Cebra, Chris Cristensen, Dino Fiabane, Robert Koch, Miriam Swartz, Jean and Chris Tindall, and Mary Walter.
