Partly Cloudy, humid, light wind NE
8 Am – 2 PM

Target birds for the trip were Roseate Spoonbill and Black-bellied Whistling Duck. The Spoonbill, a young bird, was cooperative, though it was a bit shy, roosting in the back of a cedar tree. The duck was not to be found.

We also studied many terns, herons and egrets, and shorebirds. This is a good time of year to see first-year birds, some still begging from parents. A few Purple Martins were still present, but Tree Swallow migration was well underway. There were few land birds to be seen, but many green-headed flies.

Participants: Robert Koch, Holly Hoffman, Miriam Swartz, Jean and Chris Tindall, Mary Walter, Laurie Larson.
