The 25th Lumberton census was held on January 24, and the 37th Medford Leas census was held on January 31, both having been rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The Lumberton survey was delayed a week because of snow cover on the woodland trails and very cold temperatures. On census day, the ice was thawing, the snow cover was gone and the temperatures were in the 40’s. Trails were soggy and there was a fine misty rain. Dino Fiabane, Holly Hoffman and Robert Koch walked the woodland trails, while Miriam Swartz and Laurie Larson visited Monarch Lake in the Lakeview community. The total of 33 species was about average; highlights were Hooded Mergansers, Coots and Great Black-backed Gulls on the Lake, and Hermit Thrush and Bluebird in the woods. Ann Campbell and Peggy Fiabane contributed feeder reports.
