The Medford Campus census started out pretty cold (low 20’s) and the wind kicked up a bit. Didn’t see much until we got to Woods Cottage. In the creek between Woods Cottage and Camp Dark Water was a flock of Canada Geese, and tucked in with them was a nice male Wood Duck. Working our way along the trails that parallel the creek we did start to see songbirds along sunlit little tributaries with goodies for them to eat. The same scenario happened along the creek behind Bridlington. It must have been too windy out in the open, because the meadow held no birds, but we did see a lovely Red Fox standing near its den. We found 24 species but missed raptors (besides vultures), and we did not see many sparrows. We did find a large number of Goldfinches, Bluebird, and overall a good number of Robins and other common species.
