Palmyra Cove, September 13, 2017
It was a pleasant morning of mostly sun and little wind at Palmyra Cove. We managed to spot 29 species of birds and a few other flying critters (butterflies and dragonflies). Warblers were abundant (we ID’d five species but we missed some others). Semipalmated Sandpipers and Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs were in a small pond as well as a couple of Great Egrets. The only ducks were a solitary Mallard female and about 25 Green-winged Teal. Surprisingly, in prime Red-winged Blackbird habitat not one was seen or heard. Also we got nice looks at Wild Turkeys and their young. The only raptor seen was a Peregrine Falcon sitting on the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.
