The ML Birders were anticipating a nice day for seeing waterfowl on the big ponds at Whitesbog. An added bonus would be seeing a pair of Ross’ Geese, which were seen a couple of days before our arrival. We did manage to get a nice sunny day but the birds did not get the message. Furthermore, the sand road that loops Whitesbog was iffy in places due to the prior day’s heavy rain, preventing us from making a complete loop. At least we did get to see the Tundra Swans.

After huddling in the parking lot we decided to go for Plan B (made up on spot) and head over to the Smithville County Park. The fine weather got even better but the birds were elsewhere. As disappointed as we were it was still just nice to get out and enjoy the day with like-minded souls with a sense of humor!!
