Joint MLRA/Administration Committees

Food & Dining Services

The Food and Dining Services Committee meets with members and the Dining Services staff monthly except for one month in the summer. Meetings consist of review of Put It in Writing (PIW) forms submitted to staff and shared for discussion. The committee during the year of 2023 was actively involved in the planning and opening of the new Cafe. Residents appreciate the quality of the new menus, as well as the staff’s friendly assistance to residents learning new procedures.

Gift Shop

The MLRA Gift Shop, operated by resident volunteers, is a financially independent, nonprofit business. The needs of the customer are considered when selecting inventory and establishing prices to optimally benefit and provide a friendly and convenient shopping experience for Medford Leas’ residents, staff, and visitors.

Located in the Atrium of the Community Building, the Gift Shop is presently opened Tuesday through Thursday from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., and occasional Saturdays for special events. It is staffed by 15 resident volunteers who share the duties of banking, merchandizing, buying, and selling.

The Gift Shop offers a variety of products which includes but is not limited to greeting cards, household items, personal items, office supplies, seasonal gifts, food items, and postage stamps. Volunteers also attempt to satisfy individual customer requests by searching online for hard-to-find products which the customer might need and has difficulty finding.

The Gift Shop contributes its profits to the MLRA Activities Fund. In addition, it supports Medford Leas with contributions to the Arboretum Fund, Residents Assistance Fund, and Employee Appreciation Fund. Volunteers are needed and are always welcome to join the Gift Shop family.

Health

The Health Committee concerns itself with the physical and emotional health and safety needs of the residents and relays concerns of residents on the delivery of care from any department. Members of the committee present educational programs periodically on a healthcare topic to interested residents and staff.

Movies

The Therapeutic Recreation Department schedules and announces movies which are made available to independent living residents as well as those in Assisted Living.

Resident Orientation

The Resident Orientation Committee, under the leadership of the Director of Resident Services, arranges seven meetings per year from January until November. The sessions feature department heads from major departments at Medford Leas who discuss their roles in the Medford Leas community. The sessions are not just for new residents. All residents are welcome, and questions are encouraged. In June and July, the sessions feature MLRA committees with resident leaders discussing volunteer opportunities. These sessions are important and the information is timely and applicable to all.

Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop is under the jurisdiction of Medford Leas. Two volunteer residents manage the Thrift Shop, as well as coordinate the resident volunteers who staff the shop. The shop offers residents and staff the opportunity to donate unwanted clothing, household goods, miscellaneous personal items and, of course, the opportunity to purchase such items. Larger donated items such as furniture are also available for purchase through a bid process which is also overseen by resident volunteers. The Thrift Shop operates with approximately 15 regular volunteers, as well as numerous seasonal volunteers during an annual holiday sale. All income collected from Thrift Shop sales is donated to the Employee Appreciation Fund.

Lumberton Campus Community Center

The Lumberton Campus Community Center Committee liaises with Medford Leas Operations, Maintenance, and Environmental Services departments involving the physical plant, fixtures and appliances, repairs and improvements, shared storage areas, and other major issues as they occur throughout the entire building, including the kitchen.

Lumberton NEWCAP/Welcome

The purpose of the Lumberton New Resident Communication and Action Process (NEWCAP) Committee is twofold. First, it ensures that a diverse group of Lumberton Campus residents are aware of new residents when they arrive. Second, it serves to encourage new residents to connect with the Lumberton Campus community.

Lumberton Pool and Fitness Center

The Lumberton Pool and Fitness Center Committee, in consultation with the Fitness staff, sets the guidelines for the Fitness Center and swimming pool and the scheduling of organized activities in these areas.

In the private, password-protected directory, the MLRA Activities List and LCRA Committees List provide contact information for these activities.
