Education Action Committee
The Education Action Committee was formed in 2023 to connect the Medford Leas community with the Medford Township Schools (the local K-8 district) and to promote esteem for education and educators. Ongoing activities include:
- Coordinating a volunteer program in the schools and from home. Residents interact with elementary and middle school students as library assistants, classroom helpers, pen-pals, and more.
- Bringing student concerts, performances and exhibits to Medford Leas and providing information about attending student events in the schools.
- Participating in local school governance through attendance at Board of Education meetings and other events, and co-hosting (with the Citizens Committee) a forum for Board candidates.
All residents are welcome to participate in this committee.
Great Decisions
Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching the DVD and discussing the most critical global issues facing Americans today. For eight consecutive Thursdays each spring, a resident volunteer moderates a 90-minute program on one of the major issues highlighted for the year.
Leas Forum
Leas Forum, scheduled twice a month in the Medford Leas Theater at 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays, is a varied program of speakers—professors, authors, historic interpreters, photographers, and others. Topics include current events, science, humanities, and the arts intended to stimulate discussion and expand knowledge.
Vid-U
Vid-U offers life-long learning through The Teaching Company’s “Great Courses” videos. Two half-hour sessions are shown each week with most courses running between 6 to 12 weeks. They are well publicized and include topics in science, literature, history, health, and the arts.
In the private, password-protected directory, the MLRA Activities List and LCRA Committees List provide contact information for these activities.
