ART IN BLOOM -- Floral Interpretations of Picturesque New Jersey

“Picturesque New Jersey” was the subject of the Medford Leas Gallery Exhibit in September and October, 2012. The paintings and drawings were the work of Marcia Steinbock, of the Burlington County Art Guild. After studying at the Art Students League, followed by a law degree from Rutgers and a career in law, she has returned to art. Ms. Steinbock has provided this website with photographs of the art in this the exhibit. Go to the slideshow. She may be contacted at 856-261-7684. or [email protected].

“Art in Bloom” was an invitational Horticultural Design Display, sponsored by the Pinelands Garden Club. Six floral designers from various garden clubs in New Jersey were invited to share their floral interpretation of six different paintings in the exhibit of Ms Steinbock's art work. “Art in Bloom” was available for viewing over the weekend of September 28-30 in the Medford Leas Art Gallery. Debbie Lux, Pinelands president and horticulturist at Medford Leas, coordinated the event. The floral interpretations were photographed by Mike Carrell and Dave Bartram, residents of Medford Leas.

The Nature Center here is the starting and ending point of many trail, nature and wildflower walks. The design is a simple traditional arrangement using a collection of plant material from the arboretum -- swamp magnolia, chokeberry and firethorn from the woods and hedgetows, milkweed from the meadow and dahlias from "The Farm" -- things one might that catch one's eye on such a walk. The shape of the arrangement echoes the shape of the tree in front of the Nature Center

At the cove

In the Woods by Barbara Ritter

Barbara has been a member of the Moorestown Garden Club for a number of years. Recently she has begun working with the Altar Guild at the First Presbyterian Church in Moorestown to make two large arrangements for the altar every Sunday. After the service she participates in a committee that makes smaller arrangements from the large ones to be taken to shut-ins. Several years ago, she entered the Medford Leas Flower Show and received recognition. She makes an arrangement once a month for the front desk at Medford Leas.

In looking at the painting, it was the black and white that dictated her color scheme. "I noticed that the limbs were going in many directions, and I tried to mimic that. " She used a walking stick to indicate a tree.

Lights, Camera, Action
by Bonnie J. Nichols

Ritz Theatre #2

Bonnie Nichols explained, "The National Garden Club has a new design which is to incorporate a handmade grid. I have used a grid for another design. The bank of doors at the theater then reminded me of the grid and so I used it for this design. The Glads reminded me of the foot lights shining up on the stage curtain which gave me my title." A member of Pinelands Garden Club of Medford and The Garden Club of Boca Raton, FL in the winter, Bonnie has held several positions on the Board of The Garden Club of New Jersey. Currently she is the Chairman of The Garden Club Of New Jersey Flower Show Schools. This program trains those who are interested in becoming a Flower Show Judge to accomplish this goal.
