ML Singers Holiday Concert

On Thursday, December 19, The Medford Leas Singers presented their Winter Concert, joined by The Cool Hand Ukes. Danielle Peterson Boyd directs the singers, and Conant Atwood directs the Ukes (as well as singing with the singers). There are several singers who also play the ukuleles on a regular basis. Marlea Gruver was the accompanist.

The program consisted of various songs sung by the singers with piano accompaniment and interspersed with popular holiday songs which everyone (even the audience) sang, accompanied by the Ukes.

Notable numbers included a combination of “White Christmas,” sung by the sopranos and altos, and “Blue Christmas,” sung by the tenors and basses. (It turns out they go quite well together.) There was an “All Purpose Carol” with words by Conant Atwood (with apologies to Tom Chapin) combining Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza. And finally, the singers sang “Various Themes on ‘Fa-La-La,'” which incorporates “The Blue Danube Waltz,” The William Tell Overture,” “Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony,” and “The 1812 Overture.”

As the audience left singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” it was clear that a good time was had by all.
