Several months ago, the Medford Arts Center moved to a one-story store-front building on Main Street in Medford. The organizers has been encouraging local artists to submit their work for the monthly juried shows. Recently works by six Medford Leas artists were accepted for two different shows.
Art of the Flower Power show displayed work by Marilyn Thomas, Janet deVry, Pat Heller and Dorothy Cebula. Pat submitted a watercolor titled Hydrangea that was sold during the show. It was a still life with flowers in a vase stacked atop a group of books. Dorothy also featured hydrangea in one of her pieces entitled Jane’s Window View. Her other watercolor Autumn Bouquet was a work she developed by mixing rustic-colors around geometric shapes. Marilyn choose two watercolors – Flower Medley and Remembrances and Janet entered an acrylic interpretation of her Rushmore yard called July Garden.
In the May show, Art of the Abstract, three of Molly Gayley’s works were accepted and she was awarded Honorable Mention for her mixed media work Geometries. Her acrylics were titled Homage à Degas and Exploring Space: Dance for Miró. Janet’s acrylic Life Emerging, Roberta’s oil Tumult, and Dorothy’s watercolor Aspiration – 2018 reflected the variety of media and styles among our resident artists.
Janet has been most enthusiastic about sharing her work with people outside Medford Leas. In addition to the shows at the Medford Arts Center, she had a work hanging at Perkins Art Center in Moorestown. She sees the idea of local arts centers as a positive component of community life and a great opportunity for residents of Medford Leas to expand their learning and show their creativity in a supportive way.
