A new national day, National Centenarians Day, was celebrated in great style by the Therapeutic Recreation Department at Medford Leas, where eight residents are 100 or older.

The party took place in the Activities Room on September 22. While the honored guests gathered, along with various family members, Tom Lang played songs from the turn of the last century. Each centenarian was decked out in a corsage of pink carnations. Each had a long and interesting life to fête.

The celebration program included a slide show of life 100 years ago. Then Linda Schultz, Therapeutic Recreation, read interesting facts from the lives of each centenarian; two life stories were read by sons who were present.

The cake, proclaiming “100 YEARS” was served with sparkling cider, while Tom Lang played the piano until the party was over.

Mary, 101, an accomplished classical pianist, also enjoys theater, ballet, opera, and traveling

Evelyn, 104, reads, gardens, and does crossword puzzles. She also researches genealogy.

Emily, 105, keeps up with current events. She was once active in community affairs.

Josephine, 101, loves to dance any time she hears music. She danced throughout the Centenarian Celebration.

Tony, 101, loves to walk outdoors and look at the flowers. She used to be an avid gardener.
